Two lights facing each other

I don't know why but here it is. "Koivu". A birch tree. That was in July back home.

Now it's the season in northern Europe where two darks are facing each other. This is to refer to an old saying and I think it means the time of the year when it is dark during the day and dark during the night. It is the darkest season of the year in Finland.

But this picture was taken in summer. When two lights were facing each other.

Global affairs

On this beautiful morning it is truly depressing to read about the Russian troops gathering in the Ukraine border for 'military practice' (indicating war, they say), the non-human Australian Immigration and Citizenship Minister concentrating the powers in his hands, Poland diminishing the powers of the law in the country. Was it yesterday when I was reading about the Turkish prime minister becoming more and more dictator-like, and about the killer maniac that runs Philippines? North Korean leadership style is starting to feel normal. I won't even mention Tramp and Putine. I have read the 1984 and the Handmaid's Tale. The world is scary. Why are people voting for and doting on these 'leaders'? Why? Don't we have decent human beings to choose from?

I don't want to be depressed. I force myself to believe that common sense, decency and humanity will prevail in the world. The French election result gives me hope. The next generation gives me hope. But above all, I look outside and there is nature right there. Trees, grass, sun.

As long as there are trees, there is hope.

This is a crater from Auckland.

Thinking of the green roads

It's winter. My fingers are cold when I am tapping my keyboard. It is so good that I can have a break for a couple of weeks and do nothing (except work only two days a week), or do something that I like. For instance, I had time yesterday. I was sitting in my little living room, the sun seeping through the blinds, chair propped with pillows, a cup of coffee nearby and then I finished reading Anne Enwright's novel the Green Road that I started a while back. I read, and then cried a little bit towards the end. She knows what she is writing about. Life is just a series of moments, and some of the moments are more significant than others.

Here is some colour to break the winter hues.

Kangaroo paw

We have a fence now at the backyard. No more wandering vallabies.

Towards

It's been a long time since I posted here. It doesn't mean I haven't been creative. I have, but in other places.
I am now adding this picture here. At the same time it is fuzzy and not fuzzy. A bit like my mind at the moment. Too many things on my mind. I know where I am going and how to get there but the details are not clear. Not yet.

It's been a while. Nevertheless, here I am.
